Tanak Awu Case Reported to the Special Delegation of UN Secretary |

FSPI is return to report the case of violence and shooting against the peasants in Tanak Awu, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara to the UN Commission of Human Rights in Jakarta (7/6). This time, with public hearing the case is reported to the special delegation of UN Secretary Hina Jilani. ”As a peasant’s organization, FSPI ask to the UN Commission of Human Rights to immediately to do a stern action towards the situation that happened in Tanak Awu. All this time, Indonesian government does not show any positive responds in the case settlement,” said Ya’kub in front of Hina Jilani.
Besides FSPI, the human rights violation in Indonesia is also reported by other human rights’ defenders. Most of the human rights violation cases are not getting a serious attention from the authority in Indonesia. Therefore they expect that the UN will be more effectively to settle the human rights violation in Indonesia. Hina Jilani, in her opening speech said that as the special delegation from UN Secretary she has a mandate to provide advocacy for every victims of human rights violation anywhere in the world. And also to assure that every state will carry out the 1998 Human Rights Defender Declaration.
”Human right defender is a work to create peace, therefore every state including the Indonesian government oblige to facilitate and to build a mechanism that can assure the humanity and peace defender are able to work,” said Hina Jilani. “Their main task is to observe, defend and report any incidents that violate human rights, they are also as susceptible as the victims,” affirm Hina Jilani.
On separate occasion General Secretary of FSPI who is also the General Coordinato of La Via Campesina (International Peasants Movement) Henry Saragih declare that, “This is a very valuable moment for peasants and also other part of society such as labor, fisher folk to straightforwardly report to UN delegations.” Henry also affirm that until this moment La Via Campesina and its members that spread in many countries is still fight to have Peasants’ Rights declaration to be International Covenant. The reason is to have every country will honor, protect and fulfill the peasants’ rights. |
